Target-driven volumes: set a region-count ramp and the tool generates each page, counts it, and auto-simplifies any page that overshoots until it fits. The difficulty number is the spec, not a hope.
Rotation is the anti-duplicate lever for repeat appearances of a family. A family is scheduled BARE at most once per volume, so bare pages gain nothing from it — but overlaid pages recur, and there rotation is what keeps them from reading alike. The default rotates only the overlaid ones.
Mandala pages only; tessellation pages are unaffected. Sector and petal are difficulty-neutral (within ±6% of the triangle, measured across 10 families), so Varied is pure variety exactly where it is needed — the low-density pages that otherwise all read as the same polygon. None is a real difficulty cut (~0.51× at low density) and is also used automatically as a last-resort simplification when a page cannot get easy enough any other way.
Centre mud is filtered at lookup time from the census (Gauntlet targets only), not by a render-time guard — the guard and its ink-ceiling slider were removed 2026-07-27. TIGHT remains the render-side backstop.
Tessellation pages solve cell size proportionally (regions ∝ 1/cell²) and are held to 0.90–1.15× target; mandala pages still step their integer density/steps levers. A page whose family can\u2019t go easy enough is swapped to a big-cell hex and noted; one that can\u2019t go hard enough is kept and flagged MAXED.
